We’ve all gotten those spammy emails requesting link exchanging.  So you might be thinking, “Don’t I just want a lot of links pointing to my website?  Can’t I just register my website with some link registries and be done with it?”

Well, if you’re a fly-by-night business, link directories might suffice for your business need. However, if your business plan includes being in business now, next year, and at least a few years out, you need to avoid link directories or risk Google will penalize your website if not delist and tank your website entirely.  And then it could take months to rebuild your credibility with Google if you go it alone.
